C2ES Again Ranks Among World’s Top Environmental Think Tanks

WASHINGTON — For the seventh straight year, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) was again recognized as one of the world’s top environmental think tanks.

C2ES ranked fourth among environment policy think tanks in the University of Pennsylvania’s 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index, based on a worldwide survey of hundreds of scholars, academics, public and private donors, policymakers, and journalists.

“Our mission over the last year has been as critical and challenging as ever. Facing a withdrawal of federal leadership, we’ve worked closely with businesses, cities, and states to continue making progress against climate change, and are proud of all we’ve accomplished together,” said C2ES President Bob Perciasepe. “I’m deeply indebted to C2ES’s dedicated staff, Board of Directors, Business Environmental Leadership Council, and supporters for helping to keep C2ES at the forefront of these critical efforts.”

C2ES initiatives last year included rallying major companies to sign on to full-page ads in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal urging President Trump to stay in the Paris Agreement; convening U.S. senators, governors, state officials and business leaders at COP 23 in Bonn; hosting Climate Week NYC forums on business climate action with JPMorgan Chase & Co., and on city-business climate efforts with the U.S. Conference of Mayors; and bringing lawmakers, industry leaders, scholars, and scientists together on Capitol Hill for an in-depth discussion on incentives for investments in carbon capture and storage projects.

C2ES produced timely, relevant research in 2017, including briefs on corporate carbon pricing, corporate climate risk disclosure, and bringing electrified transportation to low-income communities, as well as reports on public-private collaboration on city resilience planning and how cities of all sizes are taking climate action. C2ES also continued to convene informal discussions among climate negotiators from key countries on key issues in implementing the Paris Agreement.

In 2018, C2ES is co-organizing the seventh annual Climate Leadership Conference and Awards, Feb. 28 – March 2 in Denver, with Bloomberg Philanthropies joining as headline sponsor in the absence of federal participation. C2ES will also be convening resilience workshops around the country, hosting events to discuss major public policy issues, hosting webinars on a variety of topics, and celebrating our organization’s 20th anniversary.
