Cost of OCED Cancellations: 25,000 Jobs & $4.6 Billion

Statement of Nathaniel Keohane
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions

On the Dept. of Energy’s Announced Cancellation of grants supporting 24 clean energy projects:

“This decision takes America in the wrong direction. These clean energy grants would keep America on the cutting edge of technology innovation in areas like low-carbon cement, cleaner industrial processes, and carbon capture. Cancelling them is an unforced error that will undermine American competitiveness, cost jobs and investment, and take us further away from the goal of leading the world in affordable, reliable, and abundant clean energy.

“We can change course. Communities across the country are seeing the jobs and benefits that come with clean energy investments. Policymakers on both sides of the aisle in Washington recognize that their constituents want to be a part of the manufacturing boom these projects are supporting. We need to put our bets on American communities and workers – not pull the rug out from under them.”

Analysis of modeling from Greenlight Insights, in partnership with the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), finds that the cancellation of the 24 Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) projects could result in the loss of 25,000 jobs and $4.6 billion in economic output.
