C2ES: 25 Years of Climate Leadership

For a quarter century, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions has been convening world and national leaders and major businesses. Our mission is to secure a safe and stable climate by accelerating the global transition to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and a thriving, just, and resilient economy.

Celebrating 25 Years of Climate Solutions

When the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) opened in 1998 as the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, our founders set out to build the business and analytical case for market-based climate policy.

Since then, C2ES has engaged policymakers and business leaders—through research, policy advocacy, and dialogues—to accelerate climate progress at state, federal, and international levels.

Twenty-five years later, C2ES is recognized worldwide for its leadership in establishing the Business Environmental Leadership Council, building durable support for effective and ambitious policies, convening international dialogues, taking an essential role in United Nations climate talks, and building partnerships toward resilient cities, states, and businesses.

Our Work

C2ES is an independent, nonpartisan organization, working to answer pressing questions, identify roadblocks to progress, and forge new solutions through our research and dialogues. In 25 years of researching and analyzing climate and energy solutions, C2ES has become known worldwide as a thought leader and trusted convener on climate change and energy.

What sets C2ES apart is our combination of policy and analytical expertise, longstanding relationships with leading businesses, and reputation as a trusted convener.

Accelerating the US Net-Zero Transition

C2ES engages leading companies through Net-Zero Pathways to identify and advance policy solutions that accelerate decarbonization in key sectors across the U.S. economy. C2ES also designs effective policies, including carbon pricing, other market-based solutions, and complementary policies.

Delivering on the Paris Agreement

C2ES-sponsored dialogues have contributed to the blueprint of the Paris Agreement, and our ongoing convenings of Heads of Delegation also contributed to the successful completion of the “Paris rulebook.” C2ES informal discussions among lead negotiators spur international action on critical issues like transparency, the NDC ambition cycle, and carbon markets.

Building Resilience

Our Federal Policy Action Plan outlines key steps the federal government should take to accelerate and strengthen community resilience to climate impacts. C2ES also helps cities and businesses collaborate on sustainable, low-carbon development, through our Climate Resilient Communities Accelerator and Regional Roundtables.
