Bob Perciasepe’s statement on the “We Are Still In” announcement

Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions

June 5, 2017

On the “We Are Still In” announcement from leaders across the U.S. economy:

C2ES is proud to join more than 1,000 U.S. governors, mayors, businesses, investors, and colleges and universities pledging today to help meet America’s emissions target under the Paris Agreement.

Businesses, cities, and states are key to meeting our climate goals and, in the absence of federal leadership, their efforts are now more important than ever. The “We Are Still In” declaration is part of an enormous groundswell of support for continued progress on climate change despite President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement.

The signatories understand that climate change imposes real and rising costs on America’s communities, and that the clean energy transition presents enormous economic opportunities for U.S. workers and companies. Through the concrete steps they are taking to reduce their emissions, they are demonstrating to the international community that a broad swath of America remains fully committed to the global effort against climate change.

Our success will ultimately require federal leadership as well. We hope the administration recognizes and builds on these efforts to develop an ambitious and constructive strategy renewing the U.S. commitment to the global climate effort.
