Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
December 18, 2020
On the Biden Administration energy and environment team appointments:
“President-elect Biden is to be commended for assembling the strongest team ever to lead the federal government’s response to climate change. With John Kerry and Gina McCarthy on point on the international and domestic fronts, and with stellar appointees leading all the key White House offices and Cabinet agencies, this is a team that can hit the ground running, work across the aisle, and deliver results. We are especially pleased to see C2ES board member Brenda Mallory take the helm at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
This team brings unprecedented experience, expertise, diversity and commitment to the extraordinary challenge of putting the United States and the world on the path to carbon neutrality. They will be positioned from day one to execute a true whole-of-government approach, integrating climate action across the full range of domestic and economic policymaking, including the urgent task of rebuilding our COVID-ravaged economy, and into every facet of U.S. diplomacy and national security.
Strong leadership from the White House is only one ingredient for success. Transitioning to a net-zero economy requires an all-in effort engaging every level of government, the private sector, and the full breadth of society. We strongly urge our Congressional leaders to heed the call of the American people and leading U.S. companies for a bipartisan climate response. We urge President-elect Biden and his team to faithfully engage all constituencies and carefully consider all voices as they seek to build the consensus needed to secure ambitious, durable climate solutions. And we look forward to working with the new Administration, Congress, and our civil society partners to seize the vital opportunities before us.”
