Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
January 27, 2021
On the executive orders issued today by President Biden:
“President Biden is wasting no time ramping up the U.S. climate effort both at home and abroad. The executive orders he is signing today demonstrate a whole-of-government approach to tackling the climate challenge, from measures to grow clean energy and electric vehicle use to prioritizing justice for marginalized communities. What’s more, with his plan to soon convene world leaders, the president is quickly leveraging stronger U.S. resolve to spur stronger global action.
“Investing in the zero-emission economy means job creation and economic growth. Leading U.S. companies are already working to lead the transition, and they need policymakers to support these efforts. Forty-seven companies signed a joint statement urging President Biden and Congress to enact ambitious, durable, and bipartisan climate policy. C2ES recommendations, informed by input from dozens of companies, parallel many of the actions the Administration is taking, including steps to ensure zero-emission vehicles by 2050, leverage federal procurement power to build markets for clean technologies, and help farmers deliver climate solutions. Businesses are stepping up to the climate challenge, and C2ES will be working with Congress and the Administration to put strong climate policies in place.”
