Industrial Markets Initiative

Building the case for a durable national strategy that positions industrial decarbonization technologies as a pillar of American competitiveness.

The Opportunity

The United States is well-positioned to lead the world in producing the next generation of industrial technology, including equipment, processes, and systems that make factories more efficient, competitive, lower-emitting, and resilient. Global demand for these technologies is growing as companies modernize and expand facilities and respond to changing customer and market requirements that emphasize the importance of emission reductions to long-term market access and competitiveness.

To realize this potential, companies must be able to expand manufacturing and associated supply chains for these technologies in the United States. Doing so—as other countries race to scale their own manufacturing and implement trade policies to protect domestic industries from high-emitting foreign competition—will require building the domestic demand needed to anchor them here. Scaling these technologies in the U.S. can help reshore manufacturing, creating good jobs while helping meet global emission reduction targets.

Our Work

Making the Economic Case

C2ES identifies high-potential technologies where U.S. firms are best positioned to lead, engage companies and other stakeholders, translating market insights into practical policy solutions, and building a coalition capable of advancing policies that support U.S. production, deployment, and export.

Unlocking Industry Action

We help educate policymakers about the role that advanced industrial technologies can play in strengthening American manufacturing, reducing dependence on foreign supply chains, creating export opportunities, and ensuring U.S. companies can compete. That understanding makes support for a durable industrial technology agenda broader, more bipartisan, and more resilient.

American Made, Deployed Everywhere: U.S. Opportunities in Industrial Decarbonization Technologies

This executive summary of our foundational report identifies the U.S. opportunity for industrial process heat across six priority technologies. It quantifies their obtainable markets in the United States and globally, potential U.S. revenue and employment, associated emissions reductions, and the manufacturing and policy conditions that will determine whether the United States captures this value domestically or relies more heavily on imports. The full report will be released later in Fall 2026.
