WASHINGTON — The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) was recognized for the ninth consecutive year as one of the world’s top environmental think tanks.

C2ES placed 5th among the 99 environment policy think tanks ranked in the University of Pennsylvania’s 2019 Global Go To Think Tank Index, based on a worldwide survey of hundreds of scholars, academics, public and private donors, policymakers, and journalists.

“By every measure imaginable, the new decade we have just begun demands action on climate change at a pace and scale never before seen. In order to chart a path forward, we must build upon the foundational progress achieved in past years and unite critical stakeholders to face the challenges ahead,” said C2ES President Bob Perciasepe. “I’m grateful to our dedicated staff, Board of Directors, Business Environmental Leadership Council, and supporters who have helped C2ES achieve and maintain our success through the years, and who remain committed to keeping C2ES at the forefront of these critical efforts.”

C2ES’s Climate Innovation 2050 initiative last year brought together more than three dozen leading companies to examine pathways to decarbonize the U.S. economy by midcentury. Getting to Zero: a U.S. Climate Agenda, developed with input from companies across major economic sectors, set a national goal of carbon neutrality no later than 2050. Getting to Zero would establish a foundation for U.S. decarbonization strategy, and C2ES this year will continue a dialogue to explore the necessary policies to achieve it.

C2ES research in 2019 also included essential work to mobilize business leadership in climate action and strengthen understanding of the policy considerations of carbon capture utilization, clean energy standards, and community and business resilience.  U.S. Congressional committees called on C2ES expertise for hearings on carbon capture, advanced nuclear technology, and reducing industrial carbon pollution. C2ES was also instrumental in negotiations surrounding Article 6 of the Paris Rulebook at COP 25 in Madrid.

C2ES is co-hosting the ninth annual Climate Leadership Conference and Awards, March 4-6 in Detroit. C2ES will also continue the dialogue with international negotiators on Article 6 and the creation of international carbon markets. C2ES remains committed to convening business and policy leaders to advance solutions to address climate change.
