Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
January 8, 2020
On the Energy and Commerce Committee’s announced legislative framework:
“Today’s preview of the CLEAN Future Act outlines many of the essential building blocks of a comprehensive national climate strategy. The Energy and Commerce Committee is demonstrating strong leadership toward an ambitious, economy-wide response to the pressing challenge of climate change. Effective, durable policy will need support from both sides of the aisle, and we believe many of the elements outlined today provide a strong basis for bipartisan action.”
“The Committee’s work and hearings to date have demonstrated the seriousness and reflected the scope needed for deep emission reductions across the economy. We’re pleased to see that today’s proposal reflects many of the recommendations contained in C2ES’s Getting to Zero climate agenda, compiled with extensive input from major companies across key economic sectors. As our report emphasizes, effective climate solutions require sustained leadership from both government and the private sector. We look forward to working with the Committee and other stakeholders to turn these promising proposals into concrete action.”
