The 2007 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Honorable Al Gore for their work on climate change.

Statement by Eileen Claussen, President, Pew Center on Global Climate Change

October 12, 2007

The Nobel committee has sent a powerful message today - the future of the world as we know it rests on our willingness and ability to come together to solve the climate challenge.  Our heartfelt congratulations go to both the IPCC and the Honorable Al Gore.

The IPCC has contributed immeasurably to solidifying the scientific consensus of climate change, and Al Gore has single-handedly communicated to millions of people the urgency of the issue; this is a great and deserved honor for the IPCC and the Honorable Al Gore and we congratulate them both. But the impacts of climate change will know no bounds and there is still much work to do and no time to waste.
