Kinetic Coalition creates innovative, catalytic finance via energy transition credits to accelerate the transition to clean, affordable, and resilient energy systems in developing and emerging economies.
Kinetic Coalition spearheads a new approach for driving and accelerating investment in clean energy systems in emerging economies by creating a market for high-integrity energy transition credits (ETCs) that represent verified emission reductions in the power sector. These emission reductions are achieved either by replacing fossil fuel power plants with carbon-free electricity or by making critical system investments (e.g., grid modernization, energy storage, and clean power generation) that enable sector-wide emissions reductions. Kinetic builds and pools demand from companies and governments to purchase ETCs, connecting them with asset owners and governments in emerging and developing economies that seek to reduce emissions.
As Secretariat, C2ES supports Kinetic’s strategy, operations, and collaboration, as part of its broader work to advance practical climate solutions.
Kinetic Coalition is actively exploring pilots in emerging economies to establish proof of concept, with current pilots in the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, and Uzbekistan. Kinetic’s work is tailored to each country or asset owner’s needs and can include actions such as grid and storage improvements, early coal plant retirement, accelerated renewables and storage deployment, and the development and implementation of enabling policies. We help countries and asset owners achieve their clean energy and climate goals unique to their economy and power sector.
