WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, September 1, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions announced the establishment of C2ES Action, a 501(c)(4) organization aligned with C2ES, expanding crucial advocacy efforts to advance policies and technologies that enable clean energy deployment and ensure a stable climate.
C2ES Action will allow for a critical new suite of tools to support durable and effective climate and energy policies, including:
- targeted issue advocacy to support legislation and accountability
- better resourced campaigns supporting federal policy and grassroots activities
- growing lobbying activities in Washington alongside businesses supporting clean energy
- Expanded advocacy at the local and state level
C2ES Action will focus on policy-driven advocacy, and will not engage in election campaigns or endorse candidates.
“In a political context that is swinging back and forth, C2ES Action will offer a steady hand to help guide smart, bipartisan climate and energy policy from ideas to results,” said C2ES President Nat Keohane. “Over the last several years, C2ES has made meaningful progress in building the political economy for action on climate and clean energy. With the launch of C2ES Action, we are ramping up our ability to advocate effectively for policies that will maintain and grow America’s clean economy.”
Keohane will also serve as President of C2ES Action. The organization will be governed by a new board including chair Jeffrey Williams, Keohane, and initial members Roger Martella, Ann Klee, and Alex Flint.

Clean energy can be the engine of durable prosperity,” said C2ES Action Board Chair Jeffrey Williams. “However, there remain significant political hurdles. Built on the on the foundation of credibility that C2ES has built over decades, C2ES Action will bring that unique expertise to the policy debates that are accompanying this growth in demand for energy.”

We need solutions that can earn support across the political spectrum and deliver economic and energy benefits for American communities,” said C2ES Action board member and Alliance for Market Solutions Executive Director Alex Flint. “C2ES has long been respected as a trusted, bipartisan voice on these issues and C2ES Action will help translate that credibility into stronger advocacy and deeper engagement with policymakers to advance practical solutions that stand the test of time.”

The launch of C2ES Action is just the latest expansion for C2ES, which has tripled in size over the last five years, growing from 20 employees to 65 in 2026. Since 2021, C2ES has established new programs focused on industrial decarbonization, regional clean economies, advocacy, and the global clean energy transition while growing teams focused on US policy, international diplomacy, and climate resilience.
