Tuscaloosa, Alabama Roundtable on the Battery and Critical Material Supply Chain
With opportunities for mineral extraction and refining, battery and electric vehicle production, and leading research and workforce development institutions, Alabama could serve as a key player in the U.S. race to develop its domestic critical materials supply chain.
C2ES and the Alabama Mobility and Power Center hosted a full-day regional roundtable event to highlight local business and academic leadership, identify focus areas for in-depth research and policy development, and collaboratively generate policy and programmatic solutions to pressing challenges. This event brought together key stakeholders including: businesses of all sizes, state and local policymakers, academic experts and leading researchers, economic development organizations, nonprofits, and other public- and private-sector partners.
Our September 2025 roundtable in Alabama explored opportunities relating to the battery and critical mineral supply chain to produce policy recommendations promoting industrial and workforce development. Topics for discussion included:
- Opportunities to develop critical minerals extraction & refining capacity
- Economic development strategies to attract the battery supply chain
