Climate and Energy Targets
Greenhouse gases: Since 2000, Dominion has tracked carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of its electric generation fleet. The electric generation fleet employs a mix of fuel and renewable energy sources. Comparing 2000 to 2010, Dominion’s electric generating fleet reduced its average CO2 emissions rate per megawatt hour of energy produced from electric generation by about 21 percent. During this period, the capacity of Dominion’s electric generation fleet has grown 53 percent.
Dominion has an integrated strategy, which has reduced its greenhouse gas intensity and is expected to further reduce it. This strategy is based on maintaining a diverse fuel mix, including nuclear, coal, gas, hydro and renewable energy, investing in renewable energy projects, increasing the efficiency of its existing generating facilities, and promoting energy conservation and efficiency efforts.
Dominion also committed to transitioning their light-duty commercial vehicle fleet to a green fleet. In 2012, it intends to replace all of the sedans and sport utility vehicles whose leases expire with electric vehicles, hybrid models or other alternative-fuel vehicles where appropriate.
Water: In 2011 and 2012, Dominion voluntarily participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP’s) Water Disclosure Questionnaire. Dominion's responses to the CDP Water Disclosure Questionnaire contain detailed information on water withdrawals, water risks, and water management at Dominion. Copies of the 2011 and 2012 Dominion CDP Water Disclosure can be found at https://www.cdproject.net/ .

“We need a coherent energy strategy that serves as a reliable roadmap for achieving a secure and sustainable future for America. This strategy needs to be comprehensive, workable and understandable. It needs to address both sides of the energy equation – the way industry supplies energy and the way consumers use it. It needs to provide more funding for research and development and technological innovation to make our energy sources cleaner and more efficient. It must ensure that we have an affordable, diverse and reliable supply of energy capable of sustaining economic growth while also addressing climate change and other environmental concerns.” Thomas F.
