On the occasion of the Obama administration’s action to finalize greenhouse gas emissions standards for vehicles.

Today’s action by the Administration is historic. Transportation is 28 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions – the second largest source after electricity – and this rule paves the way to putting a significant dent in our carbon pollution. Vehicle standards are a proven cost-effective climate solution that also increases fuel efficiency – resulting in greater savings for drivers at the pump and enhancing our security by reducing oil dependence.

As we applaud the Administration’s efforts, we also look to Congress to pass comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation this year. A legislative solution is the most efficient, cost-effective approach to put a price on carbon and deliver the certainty industry needs to make major investments that create jobs and power America forward in the race to lead the global clean energy economy.
