Statement: United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP)

USCAP has spent the last 2 years and literally thousands of hours crafting the Blueprint for Legislative Action and I believe the stars are aligned as never before for swift action.  We must not squander this opportunity.  We can create an environmentally effective and economically viable climate policy for this country – in fact, we must.

We are delighted that Ford and Chrysler Group have joined USCAP. It sends a powerful message to Congress and the White House that Ford, Chrysler Group, and GM all now support USCAP's call for legislation to decrease greenhouse gas emissions economy-wide through a cap and trade program and other policies that decrease GHG emissions from vehicles, promote new low emission vehicles, promote lower-carbon fuels, and improve the way people and goods travel in the US. With Chrysler and Ford, USCAP is even better equipped as the leading coalition to develop climate-related policies for transportation and the rest of our economy.

“We are pleased to welcome these fourteen new members to USCAP. This is more than simply a doubling of our membership—it is a signal to Congress and the White House that climate change is serious business to a broad spectrum of economic sectors, and that the time for U.S. leadership is now. We look forward to working with these new members as we further develop USCAP recommendations on areas such as transportation and complimentary policies to achieve our goal of implementation of a cap and trade system in the U.S.”

"Today the world changed. If there is any doubt in Washington, this agreement makes crystal clear that the political tide has turned. USCAP offers the right solutions at the right time with the full endorsement of some of America's top corporate leaders. Now it's up to Congress to act."
