Maura Beard is the Director of Strategic Communications for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR Commercial and Industrial Buildings. She has over 15 years of experience in public affairs and strategic communications, public policy, and public administration. Specific areas of expertise include message development and dissemination, marketing and outreach, and program design and implementation.
Ms. Beard is responsible for managing America’s most well-known energy efficiency brand in the commercial and industrial marketplace – EPA’s ENERGY STAR. Under her direction, EPA – through the ENERGY STAR program - has significantly expanded its reach to consumer, business, and environmental-minded audiences with actionable information on saving energy and fighting global warming.
Ms. Beard has appeared on network and affiliate television and radio programs and has been interviewed by many major print and online media outlets, including USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Reuters, Bloomberg, Newsweek, and others. Ms. Beard holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a M.A from Villanova University.
