IBM Waste Management

  • In 2005, IBM's hazardous waste generation indexed to output was reduced 19%. This means that the source reduction efforts reduced the generation of hazardous waste by 847 metric tonnes. The metric covers 90% of IBM's manufacturing and hardware development-related hazardous waste, which came from four sites.
  • Over the past 5 years, IBM’s total hazardous waste has decreased by 35%, and has decreased by 94.5% since 1987, the base year for this metric.

  • IBM recycled approximately 77% of its non-hazardous waste in 2005.
